Aibo Robot Dog

Sony’s original Aibo Robot Dog has blown the public’s mind when it debuted in 1999. Instantly becoming a cultural touchstone and commanding a rabidly loyal fan base. People do still hold burials for their OG mechanical companions when they break down and it can no longer be repaired.

But two decades later, in an era when domestic and companion robots are increasingly commonplace, can the next Aibo iteration maintain that same feeling of wonder, that sense of futuristic whimsy its predecessor commanded?

Aibo Robot Dog (stylized Aibo, Artificial Intelligence Robot) is a series of robotic pets designed and manufactured by Sony. Sony announced a prototype Aibo in mid-1998. The first consumer model was introduced on 11 May 1999.

New models were released every year until 2006, Although the most of the models were are dog-like, other inspirations included lion-cubs and space explorer, and only the ERS-7 version and ERS-1000 versions was explicitly a “robotic dog”.

But in on 26 January 2006 Sony announced that it would discontinue Aibo and several other products in an effort to make the company more profitable. Sony’s Aibo customer support was withdrawn gradually, with support for the final ERS-7M3 ending in March 2013.

In November 2017, Sony announced a new generation of Aibo after 11 years. The fourth-generation model, ERS-1000, was launched in Japan on 11 January 2018.

The Aibo Robot Dog is one of the most advanced, responsive and lifelike companion robots currently on the market. It looks and acts uncannily like a real, living dog. The Aibo’s AI brain is capable of learning from its owners and surrounding environment to develop a distinct personality, learn tricks and habits, and effectively “grow up” over a period of years.

But despite the impressive showing of technology, there’s something mildly unsettling about the Aibo, and it’s not just the $2,900 price tag.

Aibo Dog

The Aibo ERS-1000 is Sony’s fourth-generation entertainment robot. It debuted in January of last year in Japan before coming stateside that fall. Roughly the size of a small beagle, the Aibo weighs just under five pounds. Its Li-ion battery allows for around two hours of playtime before the dog needs to have a “rest” on its included charging pad for approximately three hours.

The little robot is packed with sensors including a pair of cameras, capacitive touch pads, motion, range, and light sensors, and it has a six-axis detection system for the head and torso.

Aibo has made a fully loaded comeback with a new 64-bit quad-core processor and a slew of onboard sensors to help it “feel” your affection and become your new best friend. Even its adorable eyeballs are equipped with simultaneous location and mapping (SLAM) cameras. Not only will Aibo learn its way around your house like a Roomba, but it can develop a unique personality based on the way you interact with it.

Aibo’s nose contains an image-recognition camera, its mouth a time-of-flight sensor detecting its proximity to nearby objects, its belly a motion sensor and ranging sensor. There are touch sensors in its forehead, lower jaw, and the back of its neck; a light sensor and mapping camera near the base of its tail, and four microphones in its cheeks. It stores its memories in Sony’s AI engine, which is powered by Amazon Web Services.

Today’s Aibo is much different from the original model that debuted in 1999. After being discontinued in 2006, Sony revived the concept by giving Aibo a whole new design and smarts. He uses artificial intelligence and deep learning technology to remember 100 different people and learn what makes different people happy based on their reactions.

About Aibo

And of course, advanced robotic animations and OLED-screen eyes bring it all to life. When he wakes up from a nap, he shakes his head and stretches his legs. He’ll randomly scratch an ear or entice you to play by putting both paws in the air and sit on his hind legs. This pup doesn’t just wait for you to do something — he knows how to draw a crowd.

It also comes with a wireless charging dock. When it is on low battery it automatically goes to the charging dock to charge itself complete, or you can also tell him to go and get charged.

Aibo Robot Dog Commands

Aibo understands more than 50 different voice commands and phrases, with potential for the list to grow over time with updates. But that doesn’t mean he does 50 tricks. Rather, there are multiple things you can say to make Aibo perform over a dozen tricks, which include:

  • Shake hands
  • High five
  • Sit down
  • Play dead
  • Dance
  • Lay down
  • Kick his ball
  • Beg
  • Fetch his bone
  • Rollover
  • Sing
  • Take a photo
  • Go to the charging station
Aibo Features

The box comes with the big thermocol casing inside which the Aibo is theirs. You also get a plastic bone with which you allow the dog to perform different actions and can play with it. There is also a pink color plastic ball which also gives you another way to play and interact with the dog.

At last, you get a charging dock with a cable that you can put in any socket of your home. and just start playing with the most advanced robot dog.

It is the most advanced robot toy to play with. If you are unable to give time to the real dog that’s why you are not buying it. So, you can buy this Robodog to enjoy and play with it just like a real dog. It can become your best friend. Your children will also enjoy it a lot and they will have a lot of fun. You will also be free from the tension of cleaning the dirt or even the dog just charge it and enjoy and according to me, this is definitely gonna be the part of everyone’s family in the future.
